By the early 80s, Ritwik Ghatak sir’s best student, the wandering bohemian filmmaker John Abraham, has made Fort Cochin his home away from home. John’s circle of artist friends establish two film screening societies: Prachodana (lit., “Inspiration”; downtown, in that quaint old heritage suburb) and Cochin Film Society (uptown). The former would eventually fade away for quite a while before its revival in 2012 by a film critic. The new avatar is rechristened as Cinema Society of India.
